Jalaj Saxena: The third Indian to attain 9000 runs and 600 wickets in domestic cricket

Jalaj Saxena, hailing from Kerala, is an all-rounder who joins an elite club along with Madan Lal and Vinoo Mankad. He became the third player in domestic cricket history to attain the rare double of around 9000 runs as well as 600 wickets. This was achieved during a Ranji Trophy match, which they played against Uttar Pradesh.

This is a historic moment for this 37-year-old all-rounder from Kerala. He etched his name in Indian cricket history.

About the Ranji Trophy match 

In the Ranji Trophy group B match, which was played against Uttar Pradesh, Jalaj Saxena claimed three wickets for 152 runs, and this was across two innings. This took his combined tally for first-class, which is list A and T20s, to 602.

In around 308 matches in three formats, Jalaj Saxena has scored around 6574 runs in first class. Also, 2035 runs are in List A, along with 661 runs in 70 T20 matches for a total of 9270 runs.

Initial career days of Jalaj Saxena 

Jalaj Saxena started his career in Madhya Pradesh in 2005. He later shifted to Delhi and then moved to Kerala in 2016.

Notably, this 37-year-old was initially a fast-bowling all-rounder. This was during the initial days of his career. However, later, he became a spin-bowling all-rounder.

Despite being at the top of his domestic career, he failed to make an international debut. However, he represented the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. But during that time, he was deprived of his game time.

Jalaj Saxena: Registering a massive milestone

In the group B encounter, Jalaj Saxena showed his bowling prowess. He claimed three wickets for 152 runs, which was across two innings. This brings his combined tally in the initial class, List A, and T20 matches to a great 602 wickets.

Regardless of his consistent domestic success since his debut with MP in 2005 and various stints with Delhi and Kerala, Jalaj Saxena’s international aspirations remained incomplete in his 15-year-long career.

The 2022–23 Ranji Trophy season saw him as the important wicket-taker, with an outstanding 50 wickets. His adaptability as he transitioned from a fast-bowling all-rounder to a spin-bowling master highlighted his cricketing acumen.
