Oil companies have increased the cost of commercial LPG cylinders. The cost has increased by Rs. 100 in different locations of the country. The revised price for the 19-kg commercial gas cylinder in Delhi is Rs. 1731, whereas the previous price of the same gas cylinder was Rs. 1522.50.
It is to be emphasized that this is the second hike in the price of commercial LPG cylinders in the last two months. The increase in the price of LPG cylinders is going to be effective on November 1, 2023.
The cooking gas is available in different sizes as per usage. The 5kg and 14.2kg gas cylinders are for domestic use. Whereas, 19kg, 47.5kg, and jumbo 425kg cylinders are sold for industrial and even commercial use.
At one place, the cost of commercial LPG cylinders has increased, and at another place, the price of domestic LPG used for cooking in Indian households is going to remain steady with no change.
On October 4, the Union Cabinet approved the hike in the cooking gas subsidy. This led to an increase in prices, from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 for one cylinder. It is going to affect around 96 million low-income households. The decision coincided with upcoming assembly elections, in the five states. Also, the national elections are scheduled for the following year.
The move by the government to offer extra subsidies, along with special attention to rural women, came right after the approval to expand the Ujjwala Yojana Scheme by the PM. This scheme targets an additional 7.5 million women. This step is sort of a broader effort to boost the number of beneficiaries to around 103.5 million within the upcoming three years.
On August 29 of this year, the Union Cabinet minister reduced the price of the LPG cooking cylinder by Rs. 200. This was done as a Raksha Bandhan gift for the women. The move comes as the government started facing more criticism over the increasing inflation.
The latest price list of commercial LPG cylinders in different cities
As per the recent price adjustment of 19kg commercial LPG cylinders in different cities:
- Delhi – Rs. 1833
- Kolkata – Rs. 1943
- Mumbai – Rs. 1785
- Bengaluru – Rs. 1914
- Chennai – Rs. 1999.50 and respectively
However, domestic LPG cylinder prices remains stable in different cities of the country, like:
- Delhi – Rs. 903
- Kolkata – Rs. 929
- Mumbai – Rs. 902.5
- Chennai – Rs. 918.5
